Walking around the mediaeval nucleus of Castelló and its surrounding is like going on a voyage through history. During this voyage you can visit the Basilica of Santa Maria and its Parrochial Museum (c. XII-XVIII), la Casa Gran (c.XV), the Wall, Portal de la Gallarda (c. XI-XIV), the Convent of Sant Domènech (c. XIV), the Convent of Santa Clara (c. XIII-XVII), the Old Bridge (c. XIII), the Washing Place, the museum of The Prison (c. XIV), and the Farinera-Ecomuseum. The principal celebrations in Castelló d’Empúries have a special traditional significance and form a part of the history of the County Town: “la festa de la Candelera” on 2nd February and “la festa del Carme”, patron saint of fishermen on 16th July are two of the most popular.
