Tossa de Mar

Located on the Girona coast, at half way between the city of Barcelona and the French border, Tossa de Mar is an ancient fishermen's village with an important historical and cultural background. Its coastline, intercalated by a large number of beaches and coves, offers one of the most outstanding landscapes of the Costa Brava. Its mountainous area, accessible through a good layout of marked footpaths, will allow all nature lovers to enjoy one of Tossa’s great treasures: its natural resources and landscape. This natural beauty is complemented by an important historic-artistic patrimony. Some of its most important elements are: the walled enceinte of the “Vila Vella”, (13th century), a national historic monument and the only example of a Medieval fortified village still standing on the Catalan coast; the archaeological remains of the Roman villa of “Ametllers” (1st century BC – 6th century AD); and the collections of paintings from what originally was the first Museum of Contemporary Art in Spain. Tossa de Mar offers modern tourist facilities, with a wide range of accommodation establishments, good gastronomy, shopping, sports, entertainment and leisure. More info: www.infotossa.com
