Girona, A time for flowers- May 12th-20th

For a long time, as long ago as fifty years, Girona covers itself with flowers in the month of May. It all started with a small show for a competition and over the years it has become an enormous exhibition which has helped rediscover forgotten parts of the “Barri Vell”, the old town. It has aroused the interest of both citizens and a huge number of people from outside Girona who during the month of May throng to see the flowers which seem to spring from the very stones of the heart of the town.

And the flowers, with their infinite tonalities of colour, with their perfume and their delicate forms, appear to awaken the most pure and poetic sentiments in everyone. They also embellish the ancient, history laden stones, the oldest houses and monumental buildings, the most secret corners of the town, its narrow streets and open squares, the stairs, the walls, the halls of noble houses, the bridges and even the water in the river itself. A major part of the town is transformed into an incredible magical garden full of flowers as if some invisible hand had silently painted everything with all the colours in the world.

And, once again, the new ideas surprise both visitors and citizens who admire how the flowers clear a path towards new techniques, new materials and new elements to show them off and to make them even more beautiful.
